I have been appalled at the things I have been reading on the internet, seeing on YouTube, watching on television, and hearing in passing from people’s conversations, all in response to the “not guilty” verdict handed down to Casey Anthony. The most appalling thing to me is the hateful speech and venomous mudslinging that I have been hearing from Christians. Well, at least from those that call themselves Christians. The hate is relentless and it is flooding the airwaves all across the globe.
Everyone seems to have their own opinion of what justice should be for Casey. Sadly, we will never know the truth of what happened to that sweet and precious little girl, Caylee. Her mother, Casey, is the only one, besides God, that knows the truth. One thing we do know and the thing that angers so many is that little Caylee’s life was taken from her too early and her voice silenced.
Let me ask you a question. If Jesus were here on the earth today, would he speak of Casey Anthony the way you have been doing these past few days? Would He kick her to the curb? Would He ridicule her or slander her name? Would He reject her and abandon her?
We all know the answer to these questions. That answer is, No. He would accept her, He would love her, and He would probably even stop by her house for dinner. He loves the sinner. God loves Casey Anthony. No matter how much that may burn you to hear. I will say it again, God loves Casey Anthony.
You see, we have all sinned; every last one of us. What right do we have to condemn someone who is really no different than you or me. Have you ever walked in pride? Have you ever lied? Have you ever cheated? Have you ever committed adultery or even looked lustfully at another person? Have you ever hated? Have you ever murdered? Have you ever sinned?
Do you want to know why so many people turn away from the church today and decide that this “Jesus” life just isn’t for them? It’s because of the actions of so called Christians today who should be a representation of Jesus to the world and offer love to the sinner, but instead they are acting like the world and hating them with a vengeance. Instead of accepting sinners right where they are, they are judging them. Instead of loving them into the Kingdom, they are shoving them into hell. The hearts of many Christians have grown cold.
I want to ask: will the real Christians please stand up? Are there any of us left out there? We will not be able to make a difference in this world if we can’t extend love to the unlovely and forgive those who don’t deserve it. Jesus did. Casey deserves a second chance. Put your own emotions aside and look at this from the eyes of Heaven. There is compassion there. There is love there. There is acceptance there.
In John 8:3-7 Jesus was in the temple courts as people were gathering around. He sat down and began to teach them. This is what took place that day:
The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”
Just like Jesus, I say this in regards to Casey Anthony, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”
