What a lovely day. Not because the sun is shining, because it isn’t. Not because it’s warm outside, because it’s not that either. Not for any reason other than God made today a new day and made the sun rise this morning just for me, and you. Today is God’s gift to us and a gift that I have chosen to open and enjoy. It doesn’t need to be a day filled with warm fuzzies and sweet moments, although those would be nice to have. No, it just needs to be a day focused on God and His love. When we have our focus right, it doesn’t matter what is happening around us in the natural. The world could be crashing in around us, but with God by our side, it’s still a good day.
Why is that? Because God is the source of everything good. And He doesn’t know how to make any other kind of day than a good day. It’s our attitude that determines our outlook. What’s your attitude like today? Is it a good attitude or a bad one. Maybe it’s a miserable attitude or a kind one. You have the choice of what kind of attitude you bring with you through your day.
Do you know the difference between a thermometer and a thermostat? A thermometer measures the temperature while a thermostat sets the temperature. The person who drifts along in life allowing circumstances to dictate whether they will be happy or unhappy is going to live life like a yo-yo. Instead of becoming a victor over circumstances, they will become the victim of circumstances.
In your life, which are you more like… a thermometer or a thermostat? Do you determine your day or do you allow your day to determine you? God has called us to be thermostats. To set the temperature. Remember that this is the only “today” you will have. This very minute will never return for you to relive. How you go through this moment, on this very day, is a choice and something that can bring others and yourself joy or grief, happiness or sadness.
“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy; meditate on these things.” Philippians 4:8
